Ludwig is reviving a ’60s icon with the return of the Acrolite snare drum. Initially released in 1963 for student percussionists, the Acrolite snare soon garnered the attention of professional drummers nationwide for its exceptionally dry and bright-attacking tone. This favored tone is attributed to a 1.6mm seamless aluminum shell, beaded at the center and finely fashioned at Ludwig’s factory in Monroe, North Carolina. In addition to its period-correct shell, the Acrolite has been treated to a great selection of classic hardware, including stabilizing center-mounted Twin lugs, sonically flexible 2.3mm steel triple-flanged hoops, and a speedy P88AC throw off. Vintage drum enthusiasts are also digging the Acrolite’s era-appropriate and totally mod blue/olive badging — a finishing touch that gives this snare a guise that’s straight from ’69. Capped with excellent Remo heads, the brilliant “crack” of the Acrolite is set to serve a multitude of genres with confidence, from rock and jazz to hip-hop, soul, and beyond.
